Default Married to a theist

Hi folks. I was convinced to join the AFA forums after meeting a number of members (Wolty, Annie, Centauri, DanDare, Loki, OaT, KazzaQLD, Davo, Roger, and maybe a couple more?) on Sunday at a BBQ.

I'm a Brisbane atheist married to a fundamentalist Christian, and I mostly post on Rational Skepticism as a sanity outlet. I'm hoping I have the time and stamina to maintain two forum identities, as the people from here seem very cool.

G'day Bolero! Great to meet you the other day.

Feel free to tell me to take a long walk of a short thread, but, do you find it a challenge to be partnered with a believer? I tried it many moons ago and found it was a deal breaker......and that was before my becoming an open atheist.

Anyhow, welcome and enjoy. Hope you do find the time to stick around.

Hi Bolero, welcome to the forum. I have a theist too. We have been together for 32 years, married for 28. He has always been catholic, I have always been an atheist. So it can be done. Would be interested to hear your take on it. Enjoy your time heres

Welcome Bolero!

I don't know how you do it - I know without a doubt I could never even fall in love with, let alone marry a fundie, so you have my sympathy and admiration for sticking it out. I imagine it mustn't be easy.

This is a great place for a sanity outlet and I hope one day you have a measure of sanity IRL too.

Hope we see you around here some more.

cheers.

Yes, I find it farkin' CRAZY challenging. That's why I'm here - to gather ideas and arguments with which to present my spouse when we have our "discussions" on the issue.

I have posted (too) extensively about this on Ratskep, so getting into it here runs the risk of me becoming a bit tedious (to myself, if nothing else!).

Hi again Bolero!

Feel free to repost anything again on these forums, as some of us are not Ratskep forum visitors. I would be willing to engage in discussion and possibly contribute in some way if I can.

Welcome...

I had you tagged as very clever from the moment I met you.
Glad to see you took the not so subtle hint and joined our great place. Anyway, jump into the threads, toss some ideas around and have some fun. By and large, the people here are great.
Oh and by the way, congrats on your determination and perseverance in your relationship. I couldnt do it myself.

HI Bolero, welcome to the forum, hope you enjoy the discussions.

I'm not sure how I would respond, faced with the situation you describe. As OaT said, for me it'd be in the "deal-breaker" ballpark
