I gave gallons of blood when I lived in the UK. When we came to Australia they said both my wife and myself could not give blood if we lived in the UK between 1983 and 1998 (or something like that) because of Mad Cow Disease.
I'd give blood tomorrow if I could. With screening these days I still don't understand why we cannot give blood. After all I'm quite normal aren't I, I'm not mad, am I, not mad at all, quite sane, really sane. |

Sorry, these are blog-post links - the last time I donated blood, on January 6th, I went splat in the local Subway nearby. :/
I've been very, very upset by the ban on gay people donating blood and someone wrote a blog-post in response to my being upset; if it is true that they will review the laws and there'll be a chance that will mean safe donating for everyone, I'll be very happy. |

It's only 6 months (I actually checked the Red Cross site because I thought being tattoo'd prohibited me completely)

Ah cool. I'm probably eligible again now then. Have to check dates.

Unfortunately, I don't think I'm able to give, due to my poor health... otherwise I'd be there with bells on. I understand that blood pressure and cholesterol issues may preclude folks from contributing. Someone in the know might want to clarify this, if possible.
Good on you, gruber. I fully support your enthusiasm and drive to encourage others that can help. Gary

I give Plasma every month. While I'm there I restock my purse with blood bank business cards and hand them out to people whenever I hear 'I've been meaning to do that and keep forgetting.' I gave one to a friend two weeks ago and she donated yesterday. Gave one out again today..
I think it does help when people have the number handy. |
