Need help with workplace bullying

Hi All
I need a hand, badly. My girlfriend is being subject to bullying in the workplace. Her supervisor is being awful to her and the rest of the team that works with my GF. She was in tears tonight (I took her out to celebrate with me for signing my new contract of employment no less). The situation has been going on for months and has been reported to management.

Management has placed it in the "he said, she said" category, denying my GF and her workmates claims as hearsay. It appears they are stonewalling the problem.

I have told her to organise with her work mates to email the CEO and head of HR. They have been diarising the problems with the supervisor. I need to confirm with the people with experience who call this forum home that I have given good advice.

I sorry to do this whilst people have homes full of water and shit, but this problem can be fixed by people now without waiting for nature to take its course.

Hey this is sometimes difficult to handle however workplace bulling is against the law.

A know bugger all, but as usual the people receiving this treatment need to document everything where possible have witnesses. From my understanding if going to the the supervisors immediate manager gains nothing you are quite within your rights to go to higher levels document everything. Contact the respective authority .

Keep a diary. Tell your girlfriend and her co-workers to write down EVERYTHING that the supervisor is doing.

Thanks all, she is doing the right thing so far, it just hasn't resolved the situation. She has been keeping a diary of events (at least recently, at least the last month). I have told her to bump it over the (useless) manager. I don't know if shooting the problem to the CEO and Head of HR is going over the top, but I have no desire to repeat tonight. Tonight was supposed to be a celebration of a new begining for me as I have signed a new employment contract that gets me out of fucking practice accounting. Instead I was reduced to reading jokes from Slayerlords quick joke thread to pump things up and ultimately stop her cycling between crying and ripping into me and her little daughter (I took a few for the team tonight, the kid didn't deserve anything she got tonight).

They work in mental health (funnily enough its a Xian organisation that happily takes government $ for this work). As best as I can tell the supervisor is completely burnt out by the work and has lost it. RKD, the link will be sent to her now, IrMB as usual on the money.

I just wish I could send my mum in there, she wrote a book on workplace bullying (operating theatre nurse, now lectures on the subject, perfectly capable of tellling a doctor to go fuckhimself [at about 5 foot 0]).

Try and get the authorities involved. Also, there is a good chance workplaces have security cameras installed which can often record audio as well; sometimes this may help if there is any footage of incidents involved.

If you contact a police station on this they should be able to give advice on how to obtain security footage; workplaces cannot refuse (from what I understand) if law enforcement agencies ask for relevant security footage.

The more evidence you collect, the better you have.

Unfortunately its happening in the offices, not the lift lobby (were the cameras are). I told her, next time she gets pulled into the office to get someone outside of her team to hang near the office. Its weak and a long shot, but if shit goes down, its a 'neutral source" of evidence. Thanks for the help Croc, it would be great if it happened under the indifferent view of technology.

PLEASE! Don't get carried away with the following stuff. I'm just posting it here as it seems like the right thread for it to be brought up. I'm not suggestion that the OP is connected to a workplace psychopath or narcissist. But they are something to watch out for, especially at middle management level.

I believe I have encountered both, and the Psychopath was simply unbelievable. The whole workplace was poisoned. It was the owner, and the staff were just playthings. I have found it impossible to explain to people, as unless you have been in that sort of environment, it's so far removed from normal human experience that there is no comparative experience. It's one thing to have to deal with an arse hole, but something indescribable to be in the realm of total psychological manipulation and control.

If you encounter a psychopath be careful. They look like people and are usually brilliant at appearing pleasant and charming, but inside they have an emotional condition you might compare to a spider. I think of them as 'spider people', as that is about the level of empathy and sympathy you could expect from them. They are very very good at appearing human until you get in the way, or are no longer useful to them, or they need a power fix. Something else to look out for:

1. Claiming other peoples work as their own
2. Kiss up and kick down in the workplace.
3. Glib and superficial charm.
4. Can suddenly start spreading shocking rumours about other workers.
5. Systematically undermining staff, one at a time.
6. Separating employees and they playing the 'Don't stop until they are in tears' GAME!

Fortunately it is recognised now as a serious problem, and can be treated as such. Sadly, in private businesses you may need to have a legal representative supply the 'motivation' for something to be done.
