Angry Phoenix diocese strips St. Joseph's Hospital of Catholic status

A hospital in the US (Phoenix) has had its Catholic status stripped because it had to perform an abortion in order to save the life of the mother.
Excerpt -
"The case in question involved a seriously ill mother of four, suffering from pulmonary hypertension. She was 11 weeks pregnant at the time of the surgery. The pregnancy put additional stress on her heart, to the point that hospital officials and doctors believed she was near death."

The bishop involved is also reported to have said "donors might want to consider St. Joseph's status before giving to the hospital" - very christian like attitude (NOT).

I laugh at this religious circus attraction. The hospitals are actually trying to save others. What are the church doing to back up their claims to try to save others? They just decide that the hospital isn't good enough to be catholic when a life-saving operation is performed. How fantastic and kind. Perhaps this "disturbance" in god's plan was part of the plan itself?

Too right. How dare they put their patients before the church. Must have standards you know.

Hopefully they will now re-employ the woman who was sacked last year for saving the life of a patient.

Oh yes, better both the mother and baby die than just the child. You know, stain on the immortal soul and all.

This is EXACTLY the theological reasoning behind honour killings.

Aren't you watching Xians glad to know your masters are just like those hateful Muslims who kill thier own daughters for talking to the wrong boy?

Must warm your hearts.

Was some priest of something wondering why atheists are so grumpy?

I wonder how many women are aware that if they are being cared for in a catholic hospital and something goes wrong and they and/or their partner have to make the terrible choice to terminate the pregnancy in order to save the mothers life that they won't get the choice.

A link of interest.

And the comments afterwards make interesting reading.

So why do Atheists sometimes get grumpy again??
