Some good news from the ACCC in support of science and reason here
A great pity there is no review of this sort of woo before it goes to market might save some of our tax dollars for some of the bigger issues.

That slimy George Pell, Church-apologist-and-protector-of-pedophile-priests, is beyond the pale. He should be treated with the utter contempt he deserves.

Trivia:

Peter Cosgrove:

As it turns out,I joined 1 RAR when Peter Cosgrove was a young Lt,just returned from Vietnam.( I am NOT a veteran). As luck would have it, I was his batman* for about two weeks. At the time I thought he was an arrogant ,not-too-bright arsehole.

I looked after another arrogant arsehole. However,he had the saving graces of being highly intelligent, having a quick, acerbic wit, and actually being very humane. He was a nasho too. His name was Jeff Kennett. I believe he later went into politics.

I found out many years later that Jeff has had a life-long struggle with the black dog, just as I have.

00000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000 00000000000

*i was a batman for 4 weeks. I wasn't very good at it. Didn't want to be a fucking batman, was smarter than most of the officers, and had a good line in passive-aggression which drove them nuts.

Default smh tv

I haven't seen these yet, but they look interesting enough to post on the AFA forums for readers to peruse.

Both are about 45 mins long, and there are others in a similar vein - e.g. Bible Code: Predicting Armageddon

Default Proposed changes to blasphemy law prompt Pakistan strikes

http://au.news.yahoo.com/a/-/mp/8584...istan-strikes/

Quote:
Islamists have staged strikes in major cities across Pakistan to protest against possible changes to the nation's blasphemy laws.
Demonstrators threw rocks at police, who responded with tear gas in the southern city of Karachi.
leaders called for a national shutdown to protest against the possible weakening of Pakistan's blasphemy laws.
Shops were closed and roads were blocked in several cities across the country as part of strikes against the possible changes.
The government has denied it plans to scrap the death penalty for those who make offensive remarks about the Prophet Mohammed.
But the introduction of a private member's bill has drawn an angry reaction from Muslim clerics.
Seems the death penalty for blasphemy has considerable support in Pakistan.

I spotted Dr Rachael Dunlop from Aus Skeptics on ABC News 24's "The Drum" program late yesterday arvo. Wished I'd have been able to get it recorded, but alas, no.

Hope someone captured it, or it's been found elsewhere ?

She was talking about vaccination, current goings-on with Andrew Wakefield, attitudes to science, tweeting, and the AVN.

Ya know I searched YouTube for Rachael Dunlop and it didn't find that vid... GGRRR. I had a feeling the SkepticZone crew would post it eventually.

Since I've gained an interest in the topic over the past 12 months (thanks to SkepticZone), I hope to show that clip at a 15 minute presentation at a community group over the next few weeks (just a friendly reminder for the folks who babysit their grandkids regularly to ask their GPs about booster shots).

Thanks Davo.

Always good to start the day with a crack up, when it comes to how sex scandals effect your business you can’t go past an RCC bishop.

Italy's bishops, business sector warn sex scandal harms country

By Ella Ide (AFP) – 2 hours ago
ROME — The head of the influential Catholic Church in Italy has added his voice to business leaders who warn the country may pay the price for a raging sex scandal surrounding Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi.
Cardinal Angelo Bagnasco dedicated much of his address to the Italian Bishops Conference (CEI) on Monday to the scandal, saying "whoever accepts a political mandate must be aware of the moderation, sobriety, discipline and honour that this involves."
"Worrying clouds are gathering once more over our country," he warned, referring to the impact of the sex scandal on top of the effects the global economic crisis have had on Italy.
This should probably be in the “rolling around on the floor laughing hysterically” thread if there is one.

LOL

But I suppose, the Vatican State could easily put a dollar figure on how sex scandals cost you money more easily than anyone else. It's cost them a fortune in payouts and legal expenses, and that's not including the damage to brand name revenue impact either.
