Death is coming. It creeps slowly at first. It got Grandma. Next it came for mom & dad...next, your spouse. One day its gonna get YOU. There's no way out....except in the fantasy of heaven. What about reality tops that?

Depends what fantasy you want to make up I guess. i.e. Being with 72 virgins might be one... umm.

Otherwise it is an end to a long and prosperous life hopefully. Life is what you make of it... When you are approaching the end it would be nice to look back at your life and feel like it was all worth while and depart peacefully.

After that I guess I will turn into dust.

This is an optimistic scenario of course.

Allow me two bites at your question in case one of them misunderstands it (or perhaps, in hope not both of them do).

If I sense reality then I am still alive, which beats the period beforehand and I won't know anything about the period after.

What is there about reality to beat heaven? Heaven's not ... real.

I can have fantasies any time I feel like it. I rarely forget what they are, though

Oblivion of course;it's not an experience. There is no pleasure, joy,sadness,fear or pain; literally no-thing.

Of course I'm afraid of dying,all humans are,it's a hard wired survival mechanism. However, I have no more fear of being dead than I have of the billions of years I did not exist.

Persuading an Islamic militant terrorist to change his mind as he is hijacking an airliner, and before he carries out his plans to crash the plane into that skyscraper he will have second thoughts thanks to the voice of reason from on board negotiators and abort such an act of religious stupidity so we can all land safely. No more delusions about some religious nut believing that he will be rewarded in paradise by sitting on the right side of Allah with 72 virgins, phew!! . That would top heaven.
