Yes that was brilliant!

given this seems to be also a bit of a dumping ground for alternative medicine and related woo stuff:

came across this article on low vaxx rates in WA.

http://au.news.yahoo.com/thewest/a/-...ate-below-par/

Particularly grabbing my attention:

Quote:
Louise Plant conscientiously objected to her three children being immunised. "The main reason is not the vaccination itself," she said. "It's what they put in there and where they come from."

Ms Plant, who is a lecturer in nutrition and herbs at the Australian Institute of Holistic Medicine in Jandakot, said she believed it was more important to build up children's immune systems and give them a nutritious diet.
After a few minutes of facepalm, I looked up the institution at which this Ms Plant is, supposedly, a "lecturer".

http://www.aihm.wa.edu.au/

I noted with relief that none of the courses appear to be HECS-eligible. However, accredited courses are Abstudy/Austudy eligible. mutter mutter mutter ....

edits:

I googled up Ms Plant to see if I could, perchance find out about her qualifications to teach in nutrition. I have a few nutrition qualified people working for me and they know their science stuff. I couldn't imagine any of them finding their way into something like this. Perhaps, as it turns out, Ms Plant is not qualified in quite the same way as my staff:

Quote:
Louise Plant currently holds a Bachelor Degree in Natural Science, Honours Diploma in Herbal Medicine and Diplomas in Naturopathy, Remedial Therapies and Animal Homeopathy. She is a qualified and accredited Herbalist who has been a practising herbalist and has been growing herbs for over 15 years. She has been teaching and lecturing in the Complimentary Health Industry for over 12 years. As well as an author, she is a vibrant and passionate speaker who is motivated by all aspects of herbs, health, organic growing, preventative medicine, spirituality, nutrition and herbal medicine.

I wonder if she denies the germ theory of diseases?

I saw that report in the West. Any idea where she got her supposed degrees?

I just finished reading the latest issue of Oz Skeptic mag. Good article in there about wooniversity degrees (and one co-authored by our very own Podblack... all up, not a bad issue).

It's all rather homeopathetic really, isn't it?
