A story about my family
Here is a story how organised religion has affected my family.
My mother was born of an australian/slavic background in the 1950s. Her family was working class, always voted labour and very rarely went to church. OTOH, my dad's background was very conservative. Regular churchgoers, they always voted nationals.
Now, when my parents got married (1977), it turned out that dad's parents contributed nothing towards it, such was their attitude. A working class left-wing teacher was the last person for their darling son...... Mum did start going to church to keep dad company, but that ceased in the early 1990s. When that happened, my nan confronted dad as to why he stopped going.
It still continues. One of my cousins is obviously gay - us queers have a knack for finding eachother.....but alas I fear he will never come out due to the environment he is in......
