Hi Bwendo,
Good introductory post. I often feel compelled to explicitally state my atheism, even in the workplace. I like to engage others about the issue of religion and belief, but most of the time my attempts fall flat - people either do not share my view, are apathetic about it or they simply don't find the subject comfortable. There are some others around me who are similarly-minded, although some who choose the label Agnostic over Atheist. I'd call myself both agnostic and an atheist, to the extent that I don't believe, and yet I need to acknowledge the uncertainty of any knowledge. I remember one key moment when I asked a senior staff member what they thought about Cardinal Pell's recent comments that "Prayer could cure cancer". The staff member was certainly more accommodating than I would be. I think "Well, thats what they believe", was her response. Claptrap, I say. I think that the "Four Horseman": Dawkins, Dennett, Harris, Hitchens and co have a good point in their theses; that religion as a topic is far too secure from criticism, it seems to enjoy a privileged place that debate rarely seems to hit. That needs to change - we need to stop simply respecting ideas that exist without evidence. I would never want to attack the person, but the views they express should be ripe for discussion. Anyhow, Bwendo, you are not alone in your convictions. May logic and science become the core tools of humanity in the future.

Hi Bwendo! From my experience as a proud atheist, life is much more fun when you can see through all the lies and stand by your convictions. You have to be true to yourself. Welcome.

Welcome Bwendo. I hope you enjoy your time on the forums, and revel in out atheist shamelessness!
![]() I'm pretty out about my heathen ways. I wear my Atheist Convention t-shirt to-and-from work each day (it's my cycling/running shirt) and to the gym. I am bitterly, bitterly disappointed that no-one has tried to pick a fight with me yet.
