I've actually hoped that either the mor(m)ons or jw's pay a visit to our door in recent times. In the few weeks I've been here I've learnt so much more about actively critically thinking about the belief systems and feel better prepared already on how to get them to try (and I guess ultimately fail) at convincing me that their religion is the right way.
But, then, I suppose I probably shouldn't ask for such conflict. Hard to resist though... By the way, if we do get bikes, I got dibs on a red one.

I with Deanus-Maxiums on this one. I've learnt a lot about religion and critical thinking over the last few weeks. Almost want someone who I can test myself against.
But I think that in the 10 years that I have lived here, I have seen only about 3 or 4 religious door knockers. I'm not holding my breath for some anytime soon. James |

I've long since given up 'debating' with extremists: there is no point. It's far more useful to debate with marginals. Not only is there a possibility of a conversion but you might hear some interesting arguments (tho obviously flawed, of course!!!).
On the question of have we started door knocking - maybe that is not the way to go, but what we should all be doing is placing good atheist logic in all forums that we participate in, and providing an alternative viewpoint when the Jesus or Mohammed freaks present their warped ideas..... do we all do that???? Or do we just chat amongst friends in here?? |

I had occasion to engage in a lengthy 'talk' with a jw door knocker.
His kung fu was weak, they are mostly trained to speak to people with existing belief in order to convert them. The arguments put up are appeals to wonder, watches requiring watchmakers etc.. I have some jw family members who left me the Atheist issue of awake! I think they may be on to me

I am still very upset by what the JW's did to my friend when they converted him.
![]() He can't seem to stop being 'actively' gay (no surprise there!) but now he can't stop with the JW, self-hatred, gay-bashing, talk while he's doing it. ![]() Arggh....! |

I guess I'm confused as to how someone in his position, would view and deal with this sort of internal conflict?
