Wow! All this, and we're just on the welcome mat.

I'm having Jay Hoover Witness flashbacks.
Have no idea who, let alone what you're talking about. An inside joke of some kind?

Whatever you refer to, I apologize if I have offended anyone. Not my intent. I do like to try to get facts straight tho and I hope that in itself is not an issue.

Intense chat on welcome mat = Jehovah's Witnesses.

No harm done.

Ah! Thanks.

You've reminded me...

One of my favorite scenes from TV is a certain Mr Black inviting 2 Jehovah's Witnesses in to avoid doing his taxes...

please tell me you're not doing yours.

I wouldn't know what show that is, and, no, I am not doing my taxes.

LATER: Oh, Bernard! Right.

I'd say quite high, if you're willing to have your ideas challenged and not take it personally.

Stumbled onto this forum, but glad to be here.

Is there any known example of atheists killing people for not being atheists?

Just curious...
Welcome.

You'd prolly find some juicy bits if you looked into the French revolution. The Cult of Reason could be a good jumping off point.

Course there was lots of killing just because mixed up in all that, including the killing of atheists by other atheists for not being the right kind of atheists (splitters!).

I don't know much about it. Worth a look for the historically minded.

Thanks Loki,

I would tend toward excluding this as well. An "atheist" religion is still a religion - it just replaces a phantom in the sky with humankind.

Additionally, this was a political push against Catholicism. Had there been no monarchy and an entrenched separation of church and state, I don't think you would need a Cult of Reason. But even if it still sprung up, it would have no cause to murder Catholics en masse.

But that's just my take, and I would not claim any sort of authority.
