Hi Billy, welcome to the forum.

A cat intently following the movement of something you can't see is interesting stuff. I have no explanation for it, i'm not an expert in cat consciousness or cat neurology. However, raising the possibility that something supernatural is taking place is jumping the gun a tad, dont you think? What are some other possible explanations? There's a bit of 'god of the gap' at play here i think.
Could be dust particles in the eye. Doesn't everyone get those? I see them sometimes when I'm focusing. They move when your eye moves.
I doubt kittehs know that they're not some little insect floating in front of them.

Hi No I don't think there is a gap there, and I didn't mention god, so forget about that. Everything in existence is made up of an atomic structure, atoms are in constant motion, they vibrate at a certain rate. This rate of vibration determines what that object is, gaseous, liquid, solid, or invisible. It governs it's relationship to you, providing of course it's within your perception, if not then it's invisible. Think about it, it's entirely possible.

Thank you. You'll see a comment from me every now and then, but not too often. Some you'll like, some you won't, but hey, it would be a dull world if everybody agreed on everything.

There are instruments which would measure that vibration, if it existed, Bill.

I'll have to file this one under "extremely implausible" unless you have more.

Also: a state of matter called "invisible"? Not one of the five states currently acknowledged:

Five phases

There are five known phases, or states, of matter: solids, liquids, gases, plasma and Bose-Einstein condensates. The main difference in the structures of each state is in the densities of the particles.
The article from which the quote came might be interesting reading for you.

How DARE people invent new states of matter. Why, solids, liquids and gases were all that was needed in my day.

What would call the density of particles if it's not the rate of vibration of it's atoms?

Density constrains the ability of atoms to vibrate. Think neutron star. Fairly hot. "Traditionally", cool stuff is solid [little atomic vibration], liquids are warmer, [atoms slide over each other], and gases are hot, [where atoms reach "escape velocity" from the solid or liquid]. But there is no gas in a neutron star -everything is squeezed together due to the pressure of the intense gravity.

Or more technically:-

PV =nRT

http://www.chemguide.co.uk/physical/kt/idealgases.html

So under "mundane" conditions [Standard Temperature and Pressure] everything is pretty intuitive, but under "extreme" conditions [from our perspective] "weird shit" can occur elsewhere, like in a neutron star or whatever.

So, Billyboy's cat in the first post was following a neutron star across the room?

(Thinks: Cat may have been running a private training simulation, not chasing anything real at all.)
