Christmas day with everybody eating and drinking and being irreverent.

Long walks on the beach with two sons and daughter, lovely Brazilian wife of one son. Other son's partner is awesome on horseback. They surf.

He plays nice guitar. We spent a few hours doing surf music, me on loud acoustic I built, him on strat and nice tube amp with spring reverb and FX.

Young daughter worked out Imagine on piano.

Drank very good wines.

^Vegan custard. I had to google it to find out if it was even possible
Custard powder, sugar and soy milk. Easy.

I have deliberately chosen not to celebrate Christmas the last two years for a few reasons. One, although it is a tradition with my entire family, we are not practicing Christians, and we have never recognized Christ or the significance of the religious aspect of Christmas.
Also, Ive come to realize the banality of the materialism of Christmas. It is marketed to us and to me represents greed and gluttony.
Billions of dollars wasted on things we dont genuinely need that would better serve UN programs such as UNHCR and WFP.
I told this to a South Sudanese refugee friend of my currently residing in a refugee camp in Uganda and he said he and his family were struggling so I sent a small moneygram to him in the spirit of giving.
I will donate around holiday times where I can afford in the future and my family accepts my currents beliefs.
I could partake in the festivity of Christmas soley to celebrate the institution of family but in reality Im a bit stubborn and want to stick with my beliefs.

I still love Christmas. All those childhood memories of gift exchange and the family feelgood factor are hard to shake off. It's devoid of any religious or christian connotations for me. Neither my family nor my partner's family practise one iota of religious observance at Christmas.

But while I was thinking about it I found one article by what looks like a fairly hardline religious jew, slagging off Christmas as an anti-Semitic horror fest.

Then there was this article by what looks like a crazy hardline fundie Christian, saying Christmas is too pagan and god disapproves of it!

I'm thinking the atheist Christmas really is the way to go.

I think that crazy hardline fundie is right. I love that Christmas is a pagan festival masquerading as a Christian celebration. Especially the irony of (some) Christians complaining about non-Christians celebrating Christmas.

I learned something. I always thought that since custard is usually made using egg yolks, custard powder must also be made using egg yolks. Turns out it's vegan friendly
