Default Hunting rhinos to extinction is not a sport

I just wanted to make a comment that I am extremely upset by the idea of hunting rare creatures such as rhinos, elephants giraffe etc a into extinction , that seems ok with some people.

It may be I our lifetime where we live on a planet that no longer has rhinos and elephants.

There is a global March for elephants and rhinos held around the world every year and I would hope some of you would be supportive of this cause. This is an important issue, these animals are being slaughtered at an ever increasing rate, some fools think that rhino horn is a medicine for impotency, this is just bizarre , rhino horn is not a medicine and does nothing for people.

THE ONLY CREATURE THAT NEEDS RHINO HORNS ARE RHINOS.

Please support the anti poaching of rare and endangered animals, poaching these animals this is forcing animals into extinction which should be protected

I agree Hattie, it is absolutely dreadful. Thankfully though, on AFA forums you are almost certainly preaching to the converted.

Hi Hattie,

I don't believe that properly regulated hunting for sport is significantly increasing the risk of extinction for these animals. It is the trade in ivory, primarily for East Asian markets, that creates the demand for dead elephants. It is the trade in rhino horn for traditional Chinese medicines that creates the demand for dead rhinos.

That said, anyone who would engage in hunting these magnificent creatures for sport is despicable.

Here is a good article on the hunting of rhinos for sport:

Poaching and hunting is all taking its toll, they may be extinct within ten years if unchecked which is horrific, shooting a rare animal for any reason is despicable

Agreed, in fact I see no reason, in this world of ours for any sort of hunting that isn't strictly an indigenous need for survival undertaking. If people want to shoot guns and rifles take them to the shooting range and shoot at paper targets, shooting an animal from hundreds of meters away isn't sport and shouldn't be called sport. We need to stop calling it sport hunting for a start!

The only thing you should be shooting an elephant or rhino with is a camera.

Even with a camera, idiots can often manage to do considerable harm while using the flash.

tbh, this is one of the few things I really don't get with some people. I have no issue with hunting for food. obviously even this can cause extinction, but morally I don't have a problem with that. but I simply can't see what attracts people to hunting any animal, rare or not, for sports. I suspect most have never used a gun for what it was designed to do: kill people. not sure how many would remain hunters after a tour of duty in the west bank.

Kenya sets fire to 105 tonnes of elephant tusks and 1.35 tonnes of rhino horn.

The rhino's gene pools are getting compressed. Imagine that, driven to extinction by Asian market demand, driven by superstition and status.
