I finally have my primary PC working. It is a fine PC and this forum actually is very fast compared to what I use on my laptop.
Access to this forum is quite fast and so is the functions of this forum I use a lot. Antivirus definitions are kept well up to date at the moment. I must admit I like my Windows NT machine. It is fast and stable. Even though I can't use USB devices I always have my laptop for that. I might wait until ReactOS becomes more stable before replacing the Windows operating system on my laptop though. Last edited by Sir Patrick Crocodile; 28th August 2011 at 06:38 PM. Congrats Croc.
I like the font style complementing the topic. Nice touch. Oh, and congratulations on hitting 2000 posts

Wow Neanderthal Technology 4, it's been a while since I used that OS, it was great when coding because your rogue application usually didn't bring down the OS like it did in so often 9x
![]() But your right it's sleek code efficient and functional odd for a MS product,....

It can be quite frustrating to set up and also there are a few limitations there. Like for instance the support for some applications and as well the max. 14 character length passwords. And of course the inability to disable the default Adminstrator account (I would rather disable it and have a different administrator because then the User ID will be different from 0 or 1 or whatever the admin user ID is) and I can't watch videos on Youtube for example. Some older Flash applications work though.
Other than that it is not too bad. I can do basic things with it. And it makes a nice file server/network based storage device. Of course there are still limitations such as not many encryption products that are open source/free that support Windows NT or the hardware I have. |

Depends on the sort of specs. To be honest I'm also waiting for the ReactOS project to become more stable. It looks like a promising replacement.

The processor speed I'm not sure how "limiting" it really is. However the RAM I think could be upped to 128MB at least. Let's see what happens next council pick-up.
![]() I will probably have to look at a new mouse/keyboard too. Unfortunately you don't get too many PS1 keyboards or Serial mouses these days. I might take a trip to India some time. Just 2-3 years ago over there Windows 98 ruled supreme. |

I would think about it for sure. And if I didn't have other boxes in my house I would indeed accept it.
Having said that my mother has a nice Pentium 4 box with 512MB RAM that she intends to stop using because I successfully convinced her about a certain fantastic all new super advanced Windows 7 operationg system. Note as well I do survive happily on a laptop too. |

She is in fact thinking about this. Not sure what will happen in the end but it is looking pretty good so far. And I get more disk space for the system files too and I can use Windows PE 2.0 on that without too much of a problem.
From observing the task manager I have noticed my main bottleneck doesn't seem to be the CPU clock speed as such but rather the amount of RAM present. I notice a lot of page faults the more apps I run or if I have over 10+ tabs or so open in Opera for example. A clean install then without Internet Explorer 3.x or 4.x or 5.x or 6.x not even touching the system made it more faster. Last edited by Sir Patrick Crocodile; 28th August 2011 at 06:39 PM. According to her it would be within a few months. Probably to give time for the prices to settle down.

I am OK with that timetable. I was the one who recommended the wait after Windows 7 in fact. I remember well they dropped the price for Vista within months after releasing it too. And besides computers depreciate.
