Great stuff Jamie. Good read.

This forum is brilliant, you will love it here. I personally have spent a great deal of time just following links from the Science, Logic and Reason forum. Not saying I have understood a vast amount, but reading it is a start.

The amount of information within this forum is astounding and although I feel I have been "studying" for a while now, I have realised I haven't even scratched the dust on the surface.

Welcome to the forum, I did seven years at Mount Scopus so know the stupidity of Jewish day school and the obsessive push towards visiting Israel or better yet making aliyah (did nezter too, hated it) my cousins even went and served in the army, interestingly that drove them back here quick smart..

Never bothered to visit myself, no desire, though understand the post holocaust haven aspect you spoke of having German Jewish grandparents..

My parents were level 1 (progressive) though very involved in the synagogue so I was there often even holidays with groups from there but between them and the orthodox day school I understand completely your observation regarding selective practice, though the orthodox did that too, just different priorities..

Welcome, Jamie!

Ahhh, Timewave, you've given me quite a chortle, too

Great story, I find it hard to understand why more people do not come to this realization.
A question to be asked.

Great post Jamie.

Over in the Book Reading thread in Off Topic, posters have recently read:

How Not To Get Sucked Into An Intellectual Black Hole
, Stephen Law.

The Believing Brain, Michal Shermer.

The Believing Brain is on the list.
Everything admits of a naturalistic explanation.

Welcome Jamie.
Just stick to the idea that science tests falsifiable hypotheses to destruction.
