Default Statistics

I have noticed a few problems which can potentially compromise the accuracy of some statistics on the forum. I don't think they would be security vulnerabilities as such but it is possible for things like search engines and web crawlers and over-anxious constant-refresh freaks to affect at least the following statistics:
  1. Thread views
  2. Profile page visits
  3. User current activity
They get updated under the following conditions:
  1. When refreshed and/or reloaded (cache and cookies etc do not need to be cleared)
  2. The user current activity statistic does not get properly updated until several minutes later
  3. The thread views and profile visits statistics get updated when the same user visits the profile - eg for private messages etc.
  4. A user's profile visits and thread views for threads started by the user gets updated when he/she visits their own profile or a thread that they started.
These are very strange and to me indicates the possibility that the statistics are quite inaccurate. I would think that it would be better if they were about how many users participated/viewed in the thread and how many visitors in a user's profile - one user per increment if you know what I mean.

So is that what the spider accounts are for?

I sort of had the impression these statistics affect other parts of the forum such as the way the threads are positioned (like some threads appearing on top of others etc) in a forum.

UPDATE: This doesn't seem to be the case - but I must admit sometimes it can be helpful for me to determine whether or not somebody has noticed a new thread. That isn't too important but I just like knowing the little things like this.

Speaking of stats, we're approaching 30, 000...
30 is normally considered some kind of milestone.
