I have just returned to this thread and...
(1) Only the first two pages (20 posts) were available for reading (2) I hit CTRL/F5 (3) Now all four pages were available (4) I clicked on page 3 (5) When I got to the bottom of page 3 I noticed that once again only the first two pages were available (6) I had to use CTRL/F5 again! On other occasions (when hitting the reply button) I have been confronted with the "denied access/login" page. This AFA site is the only one where problems occur. I vist many different sites including some that use VBulletin, but there are no problems with any of them (not even a slight hiccup). If my browser was at fault or my cache procedure was too aggressive, then surely it would affect my activities on other VBulletin sites as well. Why are there problems for me, ONLY on the AFA site? My guess - because there is a problem at the AFA end (not at my end). As a matter of interest, I haven't seen a message like the one encountered by Fearless (post #36 above) |

all the read/unread stuff is stored in the database now, hence why it showed everything unread.
I am trying my best to sort this out, whilst also being flat out at work, and although others may not have come across this on other forums, if one reads the main vbulletin forums there are plenty of people with similar issues. I am trying to resolve our one asap.

Davo, don't stress it, we know it will iron out eventually... sure it is a little annoying but if others are having problems outside of these forums then they (vbulletin) will no doubt sort it out anyway and provide an update.
Cheers for your efforts. |

About an hour ago I changed from IE7 to Firefox and so far everything is working quite well.

Umm, not sure which version of Explorer, but I run Vista so I suspect the most recent.
No offense guys, but I'm not going to change my browser just because one site won't load correctly. I'd rather just Refresh each page once it has loaded (which is what I'm doing now) - slightly annoying, but bearable. I, very briefly, had issues with another site, but that seems to have fixed itself and I have no issues with any of the other half dozen or so forums I frequent. I'd like to help but I'm next to useless in regard to internet-related issues. |

I really would like to help and have been spending all my free time trying to work on this, but I hope you can see the dilemma as it stands.
How web pages work, is that your browser requests a file from the server. The server hands you a file, with information on what to do with it embedded in the request. In this case, that information says 'don't store a copy of this file, if the user wants to see this page, ask for another copy directly from the server'. This seems to be working fine with all other browsers except explorer. As to why explorer is ignoring the HTTP header information, and only on SOME peoples explorer, I am at a loss atm as to working out. There MUST be something that is happening in IE, that is making it ignore this information. Yes that could be from the server, but what? that is what I am trying to find out, and really struggling trying to find information, especially when there is so much information on explorer doing weird things like this in multiple other scenarios, it makes it really difficult to find what can possibly be causing the issue. I know this doesn't help, and doing my best to try and work out why this is occuring, with such a huge amount of information out there about similar issues, on so many different setups. Everything that has been done, should, by definition in the HTTP protocol, work... I am wondering if IE is doing something with cookies, as compared to the pages, that is overriding the protocol requests (somehow). I am hesitant to change the cookie settings, as this could end up with all users having to delete their cookies, or have problems as well! what a dilemma it's not something I can just try a whole heap of different things to fix, whereas I may fix it in the end and find out some change made the difference, the backlash from the community would be even worse than what it is now ![]() sob

(1) Not quite so good Firefox bookmarks look quite different to IE7 Favourites and I'm having to get used to the different layout. (2) Really good Firefox is faster than IE7. I have two favourite sites which take a long time to load with IE7 and it's really been pissing me off, but now that I have Firefox, those pages pop up instantly - every time. That's a huge plus. (3) A bit annoying at the moment With Firefox on the AFA Forums, when I click on the link to a YouTube video I get a message "Click here to download plugin". It wants to download Adobe Flashplayer which is already installed on my computer. I'm not going to put up with that for very long, but I assume it is something that can be easily fixed. The thing to remember SinisterDexter, is that you can try Firefox without losing Internet Explorer. Right now I have Firefox open at this AFA page and down on my taskbar (minimized) I have IE open at the AFA Forum Main Page and I can click between the two with no problems at all. Quote:

I prefer Opera - And I don't seem to have any issues with this forum as such either.
But yeah try getting rid of using Internet Explorer - in fact do your best to lock it up as much as you can - it is a security vulnerability as well as a Trojan horse. |
