The Knights of the First Crusade captured Jerusalem on this day (July 15) in 1099. One of the embedded reporters was a monk named Fulcher.

thanks for that, Youngmoigle, I love history, so I enjoyed reading that (not enjoyed the killing though, just the history!) Such a wonderful peaceful history Christianity has, doesn't it? But, of course, those Crusaders weren't true Christians

Yes, it's a delightful history for sure.
My Dad's a geneology nut and has traced his family's history back to the Crusades. It turns out my ancestors were Knights Templar. There's a ruined abbey in Lincolnshire which bears the family name. My ancestors built it with the wealth they plundered from the Middle East, which they then pissed up against the wall over the next few centuries so that now there's none left for me. Bugger. |

that's amazing, NakeApe!
I'm impressed. Maybe you should change your user name to something 'knights templar-ish'. ![]() but does that mean we can now blame you for all the Christian horrors that followed? na, just kidding...

Should have at least kept the armour. That'd be cool.
