I can't rule out a world war over this. I hope I am wrong. But I think it has already started. Even worse, some necessary allies are potentially as bad as the enemy.

I'm reminded of that even more appalling case in Somalia, where the victim of a pack rape was convicted of adultery (??!!!) and sentenced to be stoned to death. I can't even begin to understand the fucked up thinking behind that one.

The point is well made that the death penalty for some odd reason only applies to the woman...since the Taliban hate music and dance, maybe they are unable to grasp the concept that it takes two to tango...

Seriously, though, fundamentalist Islam would have to be one of the greatest threats to civilisation we currently face. It contradicts everything that makes us human - compassion, justice, equality, tolerance, democracy. It is nothing but religious fascism at its most vile - the result of indoctrination from an early age in blind obedience and "out-group hostility".

If people regard the above as politically incorrect, well I'm sorry, but it's high time we called a spade a fucking shovel, as far as I'm concerned.

I'm trying not to take this post the wrong way, DB. I am also trying not to allow my level of rebuttal to be out of proportion to what I see as you saying something at the wrong time and place.

I don't know whether your reply was a little bit of the old 'sarcasm on the internet' or one of those subtle anti-Iraq war protests, or both.

I care about the lady in the photo. Take another look at her, squatting in the pebbles. She doesn't know shit about American politics or the crisis in the Middle East. She only knows, if anything, that her skull will be punctured, and metal will fly through her head and out the other side.

This woman was murdered by malicious, ignorant, mysogynistic men who are hopped up on fanatical religious delusions. This was done simply for the non-crime of her choosing to have sexual intercourse with a man.

All of decent humanity must rebel against this ultimate stupidity and ultimate wickedness. Take another look at her in the photo above. I want to reach out and save her; I wish I could.
