Birthdays, christmas and easter are all pretty well spaced out in our home. I feel like all i do year round is plan one thing or another. But, i will admit, i love doing it. Nothing better than seeing your kids eyes light up when they wake up to some sort of surprise.

Chocolate. Lots of chocolate. And also, no invites to Christians to the house for a week on either side of the event.

Is there much talk on meaning etc at schools these days? I remember the crazy old RE teacher trying to get our heads around some old deadish bloke and a cross.

Yes and from a state school teacher, I had to quickly diffuse this thought form grandson (7yo) in the end fluff lost out to chocolate and family time and doubt seeded regarding zombies that rise from the dead.

A great deal in primary school. They do it in Years 7 and 8 as well, because kids are still required to have a lecture or two a week from the RE teacher, who, in my limited experience, is usually a Christian him/herself.

My son is in No religion at school. He is in 1st class at a Public School. I had to prepare his News talk for the last week of term 1. The topic was "How do you celebrate Easter". So I printed pictures of easter eggs and hot cross buns for him to talk about. I also sent him to school with little bags full of easter eggs for everyone in is class. All the kids seemed to be pretty pleased.

If we oppose Easter we would sound as intolerant as the Fundies who oppose Halloween.

Having said that, I oppose Halloween too. I don't think it is a good idea for parents to let their kids wander up and down suburbs knocking on the door on the houses of strangers.

I oppose Halloween on the grounds that it's an American holiday that was never celebrated here. No point arguing now though. If you don't trust your kids to be smart, go with them.
