Finally, my new member post.
Hi all,
I grew up in a large Catholic family (dad was not catholic), and went to catholic school for 12 years. The religion just never sunk in; I never believed it at all, ever. To tell you the truth, we didn't get a lot of religion, and the nuns taught evolution correctly - this was in the late 60s/early 70s. At university, I studied science, and lived a non-religious life, but I never actually formulated my atheist views. That happened when I married into a fundamentalist family (husband not a fundie), and got to see creationism and evangelical fundamentalism up close and personally. Seeing the damage wrought on the entire family by the father's ridiculous beliefs (eg. there are no such things as dinosaurs, God created the world complete with fossils to test our faith; there is no such thing as mental illness, it is your lack of faith), I came to the conclusion that I really am an atheist, and religion in schools/politics/laws etc, needs to be eradicated. I live in Melbourne, I have 3 children and of course I'm going to GAC2012
