I'm 19 (though I'll be 20 by then) also and decided not to go as I didn't really fancy attending alone.

I do know one girl from Queensland who would be 20 who will be going.

What a terrible shame Rhys. I know of quite a few people who are flying in from overseas who don't know anyone.

There's also plenty of Aussies coming from all over by themselves. Everyone ends up meeting people. It's such an incredibly friendly and welcoming environment.

I'm just really sorry you let that stop you from attending such a fantastic experience

When I went last time I went by myself and a great time.

Also I thought I'd take this opportunity to advertise the Freethought University Alliance Student Leadership event that is occurring on Friday, a few hours before the convention launches.

http://freethoughtalliance.org.au/20...nference-2012/

There are still tickets available and a catered lunch is included. Debbie Goddard, Chris Stedman, and Lyz Liddell are all speaking, as well as Jason Ball and other people involved in the FUA. There will also be some surprise guests joining us for lunch . Of course non-students are more than welcome to attend.

Hello!

If you're young, I HIGHLY recommend the event on the Friday with the university students? That way you'll be more likely to catch up with people of your own age and have an opportunity to talk to people about what to do with your atheist worldview in the future:

2012 Student Leadership Conference
2012 Student Leadership Conference -Friday, April 13, 2012 from 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM Melbourne. Tickets are $20, but even just catching up with people afterwards and networking on Facebook and Twitter would be a good idea if you can't afford it?

Contact the FTA via Facebook and Twitter at http://www.facebook.com/freethoughtalliance

. There's no need to feel sorry for me, I would've been uncomfortable going on my own and find it somewhat overwhelming to meet lots of new people at once.

If there's one in 2014 I'll be there though!

Rhys, you don't have to be young to feel like that. You can be as old as me* and feel exactly the same way. Don't let it stop you from coming, even if it's 2014 (which the GAC committee probably doesn't want to even think about).
