Default The Official "What To Wear To Gala Dinner" Thread

Since I think the other one keeps getting lost and the qu has been asked a few times by several people.

Dress standards suggested from last year (by the ever-classy Lee):
"There is no dress code for the dinner. We have said neat casual and upwards."

What have people worn in the past/plan in the future?

Little black dresses like this and this.

A nice casual suit, a jacket over a shirt with jeans (men) or a smart evening top with pants (women).

PZ Myers wore something similar to this, I recall - an appropriate logo shirt, jeans and a jacket on top.

Where to get changed? If you're too far from where you're staying, there's a cloakroom at the venue: "located opposite the Box Office inside the front entrance to the Melbourne Convention Centre".

There's the casino nearby, which has coffee /cafe places within; the nearby Hilton has a cafe and there's a cafe 'strip' nearby along the river front if you're after a break before attending the event. Otherwise there should be plenty of people hanging about the venue before the dinner to chat to.

Any other suggestions?

Nice work Podblack! I'll be suiting up, haven't decided on a tie yet, but I love a good chance to dress up. I always find as a guy I don't want to be the only one wearing a suit, so if there are any others in that boat, you won't be! . Not sure what Ms. Dilby will be wearing, but no doubt if she has picked something it will change 6 times before April.

I've calculated your chance of survival, but I don't think you'll like it.

Might not be very practical, you'll have trouble eating one-handed.

and why is there a woman in a cage behind you?

Looks like I might have to invest in a new t-shirt.

LOL Loki! I was scrolling down thread & had exactly the same thought: oh look at suit with a lady sewn onto it! Might be awkward!

Mrs DBD will be attending, so I suppose I will not be allowed to dress as a slob.

Loki, you could get a tuxedo t-shirt & wear with black pants and winkle-pickers!

Thank goodness for that! Frankly you shouldn't be allowed out without that lady, you disgrace yourself!
