I suspect that the Dominatrix might find the length of a 12 guage to be inadequate for the purposes of separation.

I do believe that she would give a big thumbs up to this image though!

. . . I don't think the Dominatrix would give a thumbs-up to this:

Araneidae (orb spiders), Austracantha minax? And it would seem that Austracantha is monophyletic with Gasteracantha?

I remember these little fellas. We used to have hundreds of them in the roses, but I havent seen any for a couple of years. I wonder why?
We had a huge row of cyress trees taken out, which opened up the yard, lots more light and lots more wind. I wonder if that moved them on?

A. minax it is and, so it would seem.

@ widdlefishy . . . Proof positive that radical changes to the environment have an impact on local species? Fear not though, I suspect that you may need to look a little closer (later in the year). I still reckon you'll find a couple.

I will keep an eye out for the AR.
I wonder if you can help me with something please? I am trying to find info on some little critters that look like spiders but arent. They have round bodies and long legs and I can't remember what they are called. I used ti find them under old tin and stuff when I was a kid, and we called them daddy long legs, but that name just gives me the spiders called that.
Do you know what they are?

I'm not sure Mjt. Were they spiders - eight legged?

I'd say if you called them daddy-log-legs then they were spiders of the Pholcidae family. "Round bodies" means that they could be Physocyclus globosus. That wikilink has pictures that might spark recollection.

Or Harvestmen perhaps?

The only other daddy longlegs I know of are crane flies, but they are obviously not what Mjt is talking about.
