Hey Atrax,

If you ever come to the Gold Coast, I'll take you to have a look at what I suspect is an undescribed species of Hadronyche.

I went through a spider stage for a while, but I couldn't find enough literature on them for identification, so I don't do much now (also my equipment is not very good). Here are some of my better photos anyway (with attempts at IDing).

Obviously a crab spider, I thought Sidymella sp.

Jumping spider

Sidymella longipes?

Arkys clavatus

Jumping spider

Nicodamus sp.

I apologise for the loss of quality in facebook hosted photos. I do plan on going back to spiders when I update my equipment with the MP-E65mm lens and better flash with a diffuser, but that will probably be once I get a real job :P

OK.. I've been living in my current abode for about 10 yrs now. In that time, I've seen just 2 or 3 Huntsmans.

But now, thanks to Mr B... I can't put on a shirt for fear of the damn things. And I'm a big bloke... so some might suggest that constitutes a crime against humanity !

It's The Hague for you, sir..

Great photos, all.

Isn't this fun?

Nice Orb Weavers Mr B. That first pic has me scratching my head though!

Good pics as well OWJ!

@djarm67 - I've never been bitten by any spider and you can lay fame to a trapdoor bite! You're apparently trying to test me aren't you? I'd say your pic is of one of two possibles, either Arbanitis longipes or one of the Misgolas spp. Unless I see it's burrow, I can't narrow down the ID. There isn't anyone I know of that would be able to tell you confidently whether its A. longipes or a Misgolas from this pic.

How'd I do?

Being at the Gold Coast, what characteristics does your undescribed Hadronyche have that exclude it from being the most likely candidate (H. infensa)? I'm growing interested in your little beastie!

@ Croc - The Woodlouse spider is of no concern mate - unless you're a slater bug! Oh - and the Jury is still out on the White Tail as well.

We are nice to white-tails, because their prey apparently includes other spiders about the house, including much larger ones, according to the local pest bloke. Natural balance.

This is an isolated population which I've interacted with on and off over the last 20 years. To date, all of the infensa I've come across, tend to be in a size range up to about 38-40mm. In 20 years, I have never found one of these over 25mm (mostly female as well). These are not just one offs either. They absolutely infest this small area of isolated national park. I thought of collecting some samples to take up to Robert Raven at the QLD museum, but there are just so many hoops to jump through with collecting in national parks. I had made enquiries but never received responses.

The white tails I thought had the almost coffin shaped backside, with a white line down it (this is from North East Victoria) .. what am I mistaking for a white tail?

Truly fearsome creatures gruber!

Although I reckon that even Praxis would be able to overcome arachnophobia to give that top critter a cuddle!

We don't get to share our sand with Solifugae here in Aust. There's almost as many stories about the Camel Spider as there are for the Tarantulas and just about all of them are fantasy. The most popular is that it has a novacaine like venom that it uses to numb your feet while you're asleep so that it can feed! (Solifugae dont have venom - they rip their prey apart). I also read somewhere that it's thought to steal hair off sleeping humans to line its nest!
