If you want it to come thru the speakers choose them as the output in sound properties in your control panel

And in gnome 3 you click on the sound icon, open up sound settings and select your hardware from the tab.

Many systems will have a system where if you plug in a pair of headphones the speakers turn off autmatically. It is usually in the form of a switching mechanism in the socket itself - try plugging something else in there and see if the speakers get muted.

You know that is not very helpful. Gruber was asking a genuine question here... what the hell was this about?

Please point out the "genuine question" to me. I could have just assumed she was talking about some variant of Windows on an Intel PC. I could have also inferred that she actually wanted the sound to come out of her speakers for games and out of the headset for voice chat. Sorry for being so ornery.

No offence Grubes but if you want online support, maybe you could provide a little more information.

There's also this great site I just found: google.com, really great for PC support problems.

Interesting that you've decided grubes is a she...
