Followers is nice. Members is better..

Our only financial support at the moment is coming from membership fees or donations. What's not helping is having to wait a couple of more weeks before we can get a bank account opened ! (Our president is overseas at the moment) We're accepting membership applications tentatively for now, and we'll arrange for fee payments as soon as it's sorted.

We're a national group, WASD, so yes, we'd love to have you.

A (presumably unnecessary and preemptive) comment by way of a caution: the risk with these sorts of groups is to turn into an anti-theist group. Leaving aside discussions about the meaning of secularism (I think it means neutrality, not anti-theism), from a pragmatic perspective there is an increasingly large group of theists who do actually get that their views are their views and should not be forced on others, and who would therefore be supportive.
Indeed. Some of you may have noticed the similarity in our name with a certain American group.. We have no formal ties with them, but whilst they've been operating for many more years, we hope our relative youth won't be too much of an issue. We'll certainly be watching closely as to their activities and strategies. I expect at least some will be applicable to us as well. Oh, and the leader of their group.. is the Rev. Barry Lynn.

On Lynn:

Quote:
In 2006, Lynn authored Piety & Politics: The Right-Wing Assault On Religious Freedom (Harmony Books). In 2008 he coauthored (with C. Welton Gaddy) First Freedom First: A Citizen's Guide to Protecting Religious Liberty and the Separation of Church and State (Beacon Press).
I'd like to think we can be equally successful here in Oz, too.

A bit of an update.

Have just chirped and faced a book regarding the current Government public consultation on "The Definition of Charity". They are seeking submissions... deadline is Friday, 9th December, 2011. More details available here.

For those who know what they're doing with Twatter & FriendFace ('cos I really don't ), please spread the word !

Post Re: Australians United for Separation of Church And State

Hi all,

A bit of news.

Had a much-needed break over the holiday season, but am back on deck now. I've missed a few news stories for the blog, no doubt, so hope to get to them shortly. In the meantime, there's been a more urgent project consuming my time..

And here it is:

================================================== ============

AUSCAS is kicking off 2012 by holding a competition!

We’re calling on all you creative designer types with a leaning toward fairness for all Australians, to create a new logo for our organisation.

For information on prizes and requirements,

see our competition page at the blog,

http://australiansunited.blogspot.co...mpetition.html

or at our website

http://auscas.org.au/events/2012-logo-competition.

But hurry ! Competition closes Saturday, 10 th March, 2012.

================================================== ============

It would have been nice to have an "official launch" of the website before actually using it for something like this, but hey... necessities..

So yes, we've got our very own site up and running. It's not the prettiest site so far, but it's functional. Still a work in progress, obviously. The site contains an online membership form to make things just a little easier for prospective applicants.

The time frame for the competition is rather short, regrettably so, but we're looking at getting some signage made, and in a timely manner. I'm about to post on FriendFace and Twatter, too, but as I'm far from being a social networking expert, as always, the assistance of anyone who can help spread the news is greatly appreciated.

Anyway, if anyone here has a smidge of free time, and artistic skills, and you're supportive of our cause, then please consider entering the competition. The input would be most appreciated, and there's some goodies in it for you..

Oh, and I forgot to mention.. we also decided to reduce our full membership fee from $30 down to $20 per year.. Concession membership remains at $10 per year.
