True, yeah I have heard that. Studied a book called Maestro by Peter Goldsworthy in English earlier this year where the protagonist's father said 'medicine is my wife, music is my mistress'. I can sympathise with that a lot and I always think of it in these situations.

Yes, I am seventeen. I guess you are right in that most teenagers think they know everything, however I think most people would be surprised at how many atheist teenagers there are. Although there are only a handful of forthright atheist teenagers I know, I think the majority of teenagers are actually atheist or at the very least irreligious to some degree. They just need some fodder, some Dawkins and some encouragement to "come out".

Also, I think it is a sign of the gradual move of society to an atheist society that I a seventeen year old am an atheist and on this forum right now. The times they are a' changin...

Not actually Bob Dylan but an excellent facsimile.

Come gather 'round people
Wherever you roam
And admit that the waters
Around you have grown
And accept it that soon
You'll be drenched to the bone
If your time to you
Is worth savin'
Then you better start swimmin'
Or you'll sink like a stone
For the times they are a-changin'.

Come writers and critics
Who prophesize with your pen
And keep your eyes wide
The chance won't come again
And don't speak too soon
For the wheel's still in spin
And there's no tellin' who
That it's namin'
For the loser now
Will be later to win
For the times they are a-changin'.

Come senators, congressmen
Please heed the call
Don't stand in the doorway
Don't block up the hall
For he that gets hurt
Will be he who has stalled
There's a battle outside
And it is ragin'
It'll soon shake your windows
And rattle your walls
For the times they are a-changin'.

Come mothers and fathers
Throughout the land
And don't criticize
What you can't understand
Your sons and your daughters
Are beyond your command
Your old road is
Rapidly agin'
Please get out of the new one
If you can't lend your hand
For the times they are a-changin'.

The line it is drawn
The curse it is cast
The slow one now
Will later be fast
As the present now
Will later be past
The order is
Rapidly fadin'
And the first one now
Will later be last
For the times they are a-changin'.

Amazing stuff. Bob Dylan is a lyrical and musical genius. Even youngens like me can appreciate his tremendous talent. His stuff never gets old because it cuts to the heart of what it means to be human. Perennial gold.

Great intro. I wanna put it in the magazine.
Is that OK with you MM?

If you say yes, I'll give you a free membership for a year.

Cheers

Unfortunately, most of that wisdom and golden talent seems to flow out of his nose... or that's at least how it sounds to me !!

Welcome to the forum, Matthew.

Great intro thread. I wish I had made such wise decisions when I was your age.

May you enjoy your time here, and share with us all in the learning.

Of course my answer is yes, it would be an honour. Thank you so much. I am so happy that you liked my intro which i wrote on the spur of the moment. Actually, that's usually where my ideas come for my writing anyway, the spur of the moment, so i guess i shouldn't be too surprised haha.

Sorry Lee, I forgot. I already am an AFA member so I already have a year-long student membership. It just doesn't show up because I am new and I have to make 50 posts. You are still more than welcome to publish my intro, in fact I am still quite overjoyed that you enjoyed it so much. I just thought that i'd let you know before you went to all that unnecessary trouble. Cheers.
