I find these posts rather worrying, for a number of reasons:
http://i.imgur.com/1LXA1.jpg The intolerance displayed is staggering, but also things like "I love Jesus and the cross, and if you don't I hope someone rapes you." - who would say/mean such a thing, honestly. |

I was particularly interested in the one that read
"few groups are filled with more hatred than atheists." It's just sad.

These comments remind me of letters sent to Madalyn Murray O'Hair who ran an atheist radio program in America back in the sixties. She published transcripts of her radio programs in book format and one of the shows was titled "Letters from Listeners". I am sure you would not be surprised that the letters from christians were filled with hatred.

Looking at anything regarding religion on Fox can be pretty terrifying, just google the youtube videos of Fox's Bill O'Reilly, specifically the ones where he interviews Dawkins and you'll see that Fox has a very specific view on religion and they don't mind letting everyone know!
The fact that they can even get away with having a supposed "news" network with "journalists" so blatantly pushing an agenda is mind-blowing and a real danger with the way that the media is being concentrated over here is that we may find this country slowly start to slide down that slope. Clearly Fox doesn't moderate those comments as they depict exactly the type of reaction/person that the network caters to, and they angle their stories to get the results. The fact that Murdoch owns fox, plus a majority of Aussie media doesn't bode well. http://www.independentaustralia.net/...for-democracy/

More examples of how religion can make people say wicked things.

Holy crap! Most atheists wouldn't say the things these folk are saying.
Where's all the 'christian' love and forgiveness? True colours I say.

Its a shame the action against the cross is a bit over the top itself. There is a discussion about that at new Pharyngula. Unfortunately new Pharyngula is a bit buggered right now so I can't provide a link.

I was actually a bit scared reading that shit. You tend to forget there are some seriously violent anti-atheist fuckwits out there. Plus, the ones who have these "wholesome", normal-looking profile photos who say shit like "kill them" or "I hope somebody rapes you"....it's just all a bit surreal.
Still, it won't stop me keeping the atheist sticker on my car or being outspoken. Am I naive to think this ultra-violent crap doesn't manifest as much here?
