Dunno about that, they came across as shallow, hedonistic and sociopathic respectively, but what the hey.

The interplanetary traveller today directed me to this vsauce video on the subjective nature of time:

When I started this thread I was surprised that so many did not seem to grasp the point of what I was saying, and a little miffed I suppose because some of the comments were dismissive, and perhaps superficial. Maybe my original description was not as good as it could have been.

I have just viewed a video that makes precisely the point I was getting at - amongst other things. The whole video is worth watching but the subject matter I am on about starts just before the 4 minute mark.

Thanks for that link Sten, a really good Thinking Atheist vid which seems to cover most things I've considered regarding life death and the idea of eternity.
I went further and viewed the christian response vid http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xM5lpufjhjE
All of what they sanctimoniously argue are the very things that I find most objectionable about their religion: the odiously egotistical demand that everything they do in life have significance, be judged, be punished, be rewarded and never never ever end. It hardly reflects the humble piousness they claim.

Most telling and frightening for me is their long time questioning of why life is worth living, why being considerate of others is worth the effort without the parental guidance of their particular god. It lays bare their inability to identify meanings and values of their own and denies recognition or ownership of their own sense of morality.

When they parade this nonsense I cant help wondering what they might be capable of without the nursemaid comforts of their god. They seem to think its either their god or uncontrolled murder, mayhem, dissipation and total moral oblivion. Sometimes I do think it may be safer to leave them to their lifelong fears of omnipotent retribution if they feel so obsessed with it. God knows what they might do without it.

Atheist doing a willy dance out on the skyline.

Thanks back Noah,

Yes that link you posted gets one to a quite nauseating experience I must admit.

To live forever as in to still be around after the energy death of the entire rest of the universe, to spend infinitely more time absolutely and completely alone after the death of everything else than the time I spent among other sentient beings, ummm no thanks.

Hmm...Forever. That is way too long for me. I'd like to think I wouldn't mind living forever, but after much thought on the subject, I'd rather not exist as a sentient being after my death. As attributed to Mark Twain: I was dead for billions and billions of years before this, and it didn't cause one bit of inconvenience for me.

Why should billions and billions of years afterwards be any different?

My point here is, true rest comes in not existing. Heaven would become too boring... even if I COULD read every book created by humanity. And hell is too horrible to even think about... although it would be more interesting than heaven in the long run.

Besides, I "die" every time I go to sleep. How much of sleep does one actually remember? The dreams, right? Those only exist for minutes at a time through the entire course of a night. And we only remember the dream that we had at the very end of the sleep cycle. Think about it
