Default Hello

Hi, im a student here is Australia. I'm from Pakistan. I was a muslim for a long time. So my journey towards atheism started with a simple question What is god. What is our definition of god. Why are we not allowed to think about god. What is the history of islam. How did it spread. How it was forced upon people. How many people were killed during the advancement of this religion of peace. Reading more into religion. And thinking about all the stuff we're not allowed to think about i.e. About god himself. And studying arguments given by atheists and discussions b/w religious and non religious people. And once you get rid of this FAITH. Everything is beautiful.
P.s im still stuck living with muslims and still have to hear all the BS about halal food.

Atheist: n; A person to be pitied in that he is unable to believe things for which there is no evidence, and who has thus deprived himself of a convenient means of feeling superior to others.

Welcome Aqeeltaqi!

Glad you found a way out of the quicksand of religion. Faith really is an awful way of getting information. It goes like this: Start with a belief [in god, reincarnation, etc], and then try to find information that confirms it, and ignore any information that contradicts it. The information or 'evidence" usually comes from some Imam or priest, or some Holy book like the Quoran or Bible.

In the Bible, it is claimed that insects [hexapoda] have four legs, yet any biologist, or indeed one's own observations, can see that insects have six legs.

And all these "miracles" [magic] that was supposed to happen in these religious stories, never happens today. Oh, they are claimed to happen of course, but if a Catholic person sees a statue of Christ bleeding, then a Muslim, a Hindu, or an atheist should see it too. But they don't. The human enthusiasm to believe what they want to be true is so powerful, it causes delusions.

Thankfully, we have science, which is all about the destructive testing of ideas, especially those ideas which we hold most dear. because if something really is a self evident truth, it should be immune from all attacks of reason, and all evidence.

And anything left after that process /method is not necessarily and absolutely true either, but at least we have a sounder basis for thinking that it might be true, and in any case might be true enough to be useful.

Prayer might make us feel good, but it does not build computers or spaceships or cure diseases. In fact more and more things, once thought to be the province of religion, are becoming within the reach of science. The origin of life, the origin of the universe.

Science is not perfect or limitless, but it is the best system yet devised for gaining useful information of high quality. Because there are no "sacred cows" in science, all that matters is the intellectual honesty in dealing with all the evidence, wherever it may lead.
Just stick to the idea that science tests falsifiable hypotheses to destruction.
