Actually I was referring to western christian organisations and the press.

And I agree, there is a .2% to .5% (depending on the source of the stats) chance of a Down's sufferer not having mental retardation, but I'm not the one playing the Down's card.

The media is 'playing' it, the muslims¹ aren't recognising that it exists.

¹"the muslims" being the crowd fueled with hatred in this area of Pakistan, not to eb misconstrued as a general statement of followers of islam

Perhaps the issue is coming from somewhere else?:

Interesting, if the police themselves are saying this publicly.

Two problems are raised by this, if accurate. Capacity to understand the "crime" (ie: under that law), for one*. And without further evidence or witness accounts, how can it be legally proven* that she actually committed the "crime". What's to say that she didn't just find it in the street and pick it up, for example?

* I note that I'm assessing these against local legal concepts, and I'm unaware of the extent to which they apply in Pakistan.

So theoretically he's now guilty of desecrating the koran. Isn't that blasphemy?

Hmmm...
Quote:
"The imam was arrested after his deputy Maulvi Zubair and two others told a magistrate he added pages from the Koran to the burnt pages brought to him by a witness," police investigator Munir Hussain Jaffri said.

Zubair and the two others, Mohammad Shahzad and Awais Ahmed, told police they had urged Chishti not to interfere with the papers, Jaffri said.

"They protested that he should not add something to the evidence and he should give the evidence to the police as he got it and should not do this," Jaffri said. (my emphasis)
...a set-up within a set-up, perhaps? Such laudable religious morals, if so.

I noticed the oxymoron and fixed it for you (my bold).
Obviously it takes blasphemy to fight blasphemy. Sounds legit to me.
