Default Yahweh - the most unpleasant character in all fiction

Yesterday I attended a funeral for a family member, one of those few occasions that gets me into a church. Always an interesting experience.

There were bibles on every pew, and while waiting for the service to begin my daughter and I passed the time by opening the "good" book at a random page and pointing at a random passage.

Eyes closed, no cheating, this is what came up: Jeremiah 15:6, what a doozy!

Prepare to get winnowed with a winnowing fork.

Trying to justify your deity as a "loving god" is like a game of Twister. Twist it around as much as you like, you're still going to end looking stupid and on your arse.

What, indeed, is an atheist? He is one who destroys delusions which are harmful to humanity in order to lead men back to nature, to reality, to reason. Baron d'Holbach

If we go back to the beginnings of things, we shall always find that ignorance and fear created the gods; that imagination, rapture and deception embellished them; that weakness worships them; that custom spares them; and that tyranny favours them in order to profit from the blindness of men. Baron d'Holbach

One of those times when you really can't click the 'like' button.
We can know something only if it is both true and knowable, Thinking Fast and Slow, Daniel Kahneman, 2011.
