Default Providence of God?

Not to diminish the tragedy that has occurred at Dreamworld, I've been on this ride and it really could have happened to anyone so it would appear.

But really?

Dreamworld accident: Kids in hospital after ride tragedy

Quote:
It's "almost a miracle" two children escaped the Dreamworld tragedy that claimed four lives on Tuesday afternoon, police say.

Queensland Police Assistant Commissioner Brian Codd said a young boy, 10, and girl, 12, escaped a raft on the Thunder River Rapids ride as it hit another raft and flipped, killing four adults on board.

'Through the providence of God' is how Gold Coast Police describe the survival of two children in the Dreamworld disaster.
Well considering "Dreamworld accident: Son saw Sydney mother Cindy Low die in theme park tragedy", I would suggest this god of which you speak is a fucking monster. Or are you suggesting the children deserved to live and the others didn't? FFS.

Quote:
CCTV captured the whole incident and police have been poring over the footage to determine the cause.

Mr Codd said the ride, which could remain a crime scene for two or three days, had "an apparent misoperation or some catastrophe", causing the raft to flip backwards.

"In terms of how they escaped, maybe through the providence of God," he said.

"From what I have seen, it's almost a miracle that anybody came out of that.

"If we are going to be thankful for anything I am thankful for that."

Brother and sister Luke Dorsett, 35, and Kate Goodchild, 32, and Mr Dorsett's partner Roozi Araghi, all from Canberra, and Sydney-based New Zealander Cindy Low died as horrified witnesses looked on at the Gold Coast theme park.

"We know that an occurrence has seen that particular flume (raft) be turned over and flipped, resulting in it falling back on top of those persons and those persons being variously caught in machinery and I don't want to go into too much graphic detail," Mr Codd said.
But 'Providence of God' and all that.
Quote:
He said two of the rafts had come together at the end of the ride, where people would normally get off, causing the raft in question to flip backwards.

Paramedics said two were thrown clear of the ride while the other two were stuck in the ride itself.

The raft, which was hurriedly covered with towels and other items in the aftermath, has been taken away for forensic examination.

Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said the two children who were on the ride were being cared for in the Gold Coast University Hospital.

Mr Codd said first responders, including police, paramedics and other emergency services had been "deeply affected".

"Many of our officers have families. I don't think there's any of our officers who haven't enjoyed the delights of Dreamworld and that particular ride," he said.

"We are providing maximum support in terms of our peer support officers, our human services officers and our chaplaincy and we will continue to do that as long as it is needed.

"Often in these circumstances, my experience is that our officers plough through and get their work done at the critical time and it is often in the days and often weeks later that the reality hits in and it has its emotional impact."

A team of 30 detectives is involved in the investigation amid union claims it raised grave concerns about safety at the park 18 months ago, and that owner Ardent Leisure fought efforts to obtain relevant information.

The Australian Workers Union, which represents Dreamworld staff, says it took safety concerns to Ardent as far back as April 2015, and even submitted right-to-information requests with the division of Workplace Health and Safety.

Several visitors to the park claimed the ride had broken down at least twice earlier in the day but Dreamworld is yet to respond to those comments.

Mr Codd said both of those reports would form important parts of the police investigation as specialist engineers helped examine the ride, its maintenance and the park's policies and procedures.

The Queensland Police Service will be applying all resources necessary to examine every aspect to what has happened here," he said.

"We owe it to the deceased and their families.

"We owe it to the community of Queensland to get to the bottom of what caused this, to hold accountable any person that needs to be held accountable for this occurring, if that is the case. "But most particularly, ensuring that this can never happen again."

A steady flow of locals have come to the park on Wednesday morning to leave floral tributes.

"We just wanted to do this to let the families know we're thinking of them," said a mother who attended with her three school children aged 11 to 13.

"I've been here with my children before. It's supposed to be a fun place. It's just heartbreaking."

NOTE: Police initially said there were two young boys on the raft, rather than a boy and girl.

For fuck's sake.

'Mr. Cobb, can you tell us why God chose not to save the four people that died?'
