Written by Berthold Brecht and composed by Kurt Weill for the play Die Dreigroschenoper (ie: The Threepenny
Opera) in 1927-28, subsequently covered by many musicians. My favourite version in English is done by Tom Waits.

...und auch eine Operatische Version, auf Deutsch natürlich:

This song is where I draw my signature from.

In response to Protium - this is what I am trying to design:

Except audio will be passed through. Not MIDI notes necessarily.

My favourite Canadian indie artist, outta Vancouver, British Columbia:

The words can be heard somewhat okay in this version...

Quote:
Petunia said
You can't go to church just to claim you got a soul
You can't pay the piper with your silver and your gold
You can't run and hide from the burning inside
It's your soul callin' ya to dance in the fire
Dance in the fire
This second version of the same song, though really kickin', the gain is too high, and consequently the words are somewhat drowned out, too bad. Gonna buy this album when I get my new credit card .

I've met this guy twice when he was doing solo gigs. There were about 10 people in the audience each time and lots of booze, in a living room. Those were merry times.

Ever like a song a lot but you can't hear the lyrics in a live version?

Well I tracked down yet a third version of Petunia's song(sung in an Anglican church!), and after slowing sections down and cross-referencing I came up with the complete lyrics. This was a difficult task, as he yodels half the words, even in his solo performance. This is brilliant stuff, I just had to share.

Quote:
Petunia said
I've got a ragtime forming outside of my head
Comin' back to me now from the ages of the dead
"Well if Tom Waits can yodel, well than I bet that you can",
Got up inside his head, then I came a crawlin' back

I tell ya: What do you do with the poison in ya head
Seepin' and a creepin' in every single bed
And ya dream when you wake and you bake and you make
Every single try but you can't then you cry

Mercy, mercy over me
Why mercy, mercy over me

I'm just a cowboy singin' and a cryin' all I can
To take the spirit and the soul and to place it in your hand
I'll take the holy bible to make you all liable
To sing in every church and every bar in every land

Well like a blackjack dealer I'm a dealin' out the cards
You fumble with your soul, you gamble with your lark
You can't get to heaven if it's where you want to go
No you can't use fat.

You gotta gamble with your soul
Gamble with your soul

Well you can't go to church just to claim you got a soul
You can't pay the piper with your silver and your gold
You can't run and hide from the burning inside
It's your soul callin' ya

So you better make the time for a deed with a wild young lady
Scratchin' and a grabbin' in a wild young way
You can't retire you gotta look em in the eye
You gotta tango with your soul

Dance in the fire
Dance in the fire

Well you can call yourself a christian or a muslim or a jew
You can call yourself a prophet or a liar or a fool
Well when the chips are on the table, you can't use coal, you can't use fat
You gotta gamble when the time draws near just to lay down to die
And the sun is setting, Christ, on my last blue sky
Will you say please, will you say please
It's too late man, for all your mercy over me
For all your mercy over me
If you're not just skipping over this post and are actually interested, this third version is on his website, www.petuniamusic.com. I tend to be obsessive over songs I like, tracking down every last recording of them...

I wish this were the disney I grew up with...

"Destino (the Galician, Spanish, Portuguese and Italian word for "destiny") was storyboarded by Disney studio artist John Hench and artist Salvador Dalí for eight months in late 1945 and 1946; however, financial concerns caused Disney to cease production.[citation needed] The Walt Disney Company, then Walt Disney Studios, was plagued by many financial woes in the World War II era. Hench compiled a short animation test of about 18 seconds in the hopes of rekindling Disney's interest in the project, but the production was no longer deemed financially viable and put on indefinite hiatus." (Wikipedia)

I can't stop myself watching this over and over again...
