Archive photo, 20 March 2015: Brave, the male of our pied butcherbirds, brings me a freshly-killed speckled dove.

He dragged it about 10 metres from the kill site and left if at the bottom of the stairs, in front of me.

I had no idea butcherbirds killed adult birds! Nice (creepy) gesture on his part though.

@KiP: He's only done the food offering thing once. I've seen lots of tales about butchies killing cockatiels (ours are strictly indoors!) and budgies.

What I didn't know till just now is that B-birds dabble with a bit of vege food too: http://www.australianwildlife.com.au...tcherbird.html

It doesn't mention their intelligence, but their capabilities would make me suspect they are just as smart as corvids, or close enough.
