in the meantime ...

Brandis criticises Abbott's 'bizarre' call to ban Macklemore 'gay anthem' at NRL

https://www.theguardian.com/sport/20...-anthem-at-nrl

Quote:
On Wednesday, Abbott said the season-ending event should not be “politicised” by the pro-LGBT rights song, after the former NRL player Tony Wall launched a petition on Change.org to stop its performance.

I think politicians refraining from commenting on this would be a good start. does he really think Macklemore gives two hoots about SSM in Australia?

Because the YES vote SMS message may have disenchanted some community members whose ethical standards are easily swayed (SERIOUSLY, PEOPLE?), that secret friend of the gay community, Cory "Dollars For Dress Day" Bernardi is going to piss off a bunch of NO voters: is there no end to the good things he will inadvertently do?

He probably didn't before, but trying to ban somebody for something they didn't really care about is bound to suddenly make them care about it. Sort of like banning atheists from public office like in many places in the USA. I couldn't give two hoot about public office, and many other atheists probably likewise, but then they suddenly get atheist activists because they have banned atheists, not because the atheists actually care about public office.

People suddenly start caring a lot when you use their personal characters traits to start banning them from things.

This shitty pamphlet arrived in my letterbox today. I couldn't bear to upload it without photoshopping an extra message on it, just in case my intention was misconstrued.

Pope Francis appears to me to be very clever and very dishonest. I have friends who are otherwise sane, but who share his waffle on social media, and praise him for his supposed progressiveness. But his "progressive" statements are always vague and ambiguous, and accompanied by clear-cut words that clearly state that it's repressive, sexist, homophobic business as usual. That doesn't make the news.

One of the supposedly reformist comments he made about homosexuality was "who am I to judge?" At the time I thought, "you're the fucking Pope, mate, judging is your job." And here the Catholic machine in Australia feels it is now the right time to dispense with the deception that this is a nice liberal pope, and show just how judgmental Mr Bergoglio really is.

It's interesting because when Benedict became Pope, one of his goals was to "get Europe back". He chose the name Benedict because Saint Benedict's history is closely associated with Europe. I thought at the time, you ain't getting beautiful secular Europe back, Popey, it's ours now. And of course he failed dismally. His successor has a different "fake news" sort of approach, he's the Donald Trump of Popes. A dangerous adversary. Or as our bible-reading friends might say, a wolf on sheep's clothing.

Frankie's time would be better spent chasing the real abusers in his church, instead of making up atrocities-in-advance to blame on gay people.

The "no" crowd allways harp on about how ssm is harmfull to kids but they never acually explain how, they usually just bitch about free speech when i press the question.

And of course, this debate is about allowing two people to marry. Plenty of marriages have no children, and not all same sex couples will want children. Saying "Won't someone think of the children!" is the usual no crowd trying to muddy the waters.
