It's interesting to note, with reference to workmx' cited article on Moral Contents of Anti---- prejudice or however it is termed, that anti-gay prejudice is mostly rooted in the notion of lack of sancitity or degradation associated with gayness.

Is that the case amongst Islamic attitudes towards homosexuality there?

Anti-gayness is also based on ignorance about biology. The biological facts are that human and non-human animals possess a spectrum of morphological and behavioural traits associated with sex, albeit often seen as bi-modally distributed. [ie most individuals are male or female in many species, in others there is serial or simultaneous hermaphroditism, and so on. This is entirely predicted by evolutionary theory, and abundant evidence. So "gayness" is not an abomination [as some religious leaders want us to believe], but entirely natural.
