Default Amusing correlations

We all know that correlation doesn't necessarily mean there is causation.

Here are some amusing correlations, both positive and negative.

That is brilliant.

Though someone has too much time on their hands.

We exist and there just happens to be a book that claims to explain it in a round about way. Hmmmm!

Correlation research is only as good as the data on which it is based. Todays mega - databases with numerous datasets (each with different questions, coding, weighting and assumptions) are the problem.

Pretty much if you can think of a correlation, you'll find a relationship.

An older episode of Science For The People covered this in some depth.

Mind you, I always preferred interviews and participant observation in my sociological research.

Leaving methodological concerns aside, maybe all it is telling us is more universities means more urban thus less long guns (and maybe more handguns).

Intervening variables (confounders) need to be controlled for.

Fair enough. Bloody sociologists and their grammatical relativism.
