I'm drawing up a list of people.

I shall then forward it to <Impoverished&UnpopularState>, with promises of money, if the country confers citizenship on those I wish to ban from office.

Tony Abbott is a dual citizen of both 2017 and 1955. He ought to lose his seat, i reckon.
I don't agree, at least not for that reason. As a Republican, I believe we should not have a monarch anyway. But we are a Constitutional Monarchy, and thus share the Queen [or her representatives] with the UK as being Head Of State.

Historically, this has been mainly ceremonial, until the dismissal of the Whitlam administration by John Kerr in 1975.

So as Tony Abbott is serving his Head Of State [albeit appallingly badly] there is no case to answer, because only some of the Constitutional machinery tying us to the UK has been dismantled. if it was totally dismantled, we would indeed, be a Republic, and any actions that benefited the UK over Australia would be a treasonous act.

So arguably, if Abbott acted in the UK's interest and against Australia's it is not at all clear that he would be committing treason. [Or vice-versa, presumably, but the UK is the "senior state"]. Because we were part of the British Empire, rather than the other way around.

Well, if there is a conflict of interest for any reason, or a possible conflict of interest, the MP or minister is supposed to stay out of it. For example, if one is an ex-police officer, the tradition is that you don't become minister for Police.
I got to thinking about that after Barnaby Joke asserted with confidence that Aussies would want the situation to remain unchanged and any attempts to change the legislation would not succeed.

he may be right, but I find the hypocrisy somewhat egregious.

let's look at two possible conflicts of interest

1. a minister is dual citizen
2. a minister is receiving donation/favour from a 3rd party (e.g. corporation)

both could - in theory - lead to a situation that said minister acts not in favour (or according to wishes) of the Aussie public.

the likelihood of #1 being a potential problem is low, #2 is high.
the evidence of #1 having actually taken place is low, #2 is high
the issues Aussies take with #1 is (I suspect) low, #2 in high

so if we aim to minimise conflicts of interest, why isn't anyone talking about campaign finance reform?

(PS: this is rhetorical question)

Is his native name "Still-Advised-By-Accused-Rapist"?

Nay, he's running for that lump of coal down the hill.

Our electorate has one candidate whose name is an anagram of "Worse TV Tart".

Aye. it seems to me that a greater, and known threat than dual citizenship per se, is the influence on MP's who are Australian citizens, and yet accepting donation from foreign powers or large corporations incorporated overseas. [Some of those corporations are owned by foreign powers, such as the PRC].
