Farewell Tom Petty.

TOM Petty has reportedly died after being found in "full cardiac arrest" at his home in Malibu.

The legendary Free Fallin' rocker, 66, was rushed to hospital and put on life support after being found unconscious and not breathing in his Malibu home, reports TMZ.

According to the media outlet, emergency crews were unable to find a pulse and he was showing no signs of brain activity after arriving at UCLA Santa Monica Hospital.

His loved ones made the decision to switch off life support a short time later.

Petty burst onto the scene in 1976 with his band Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers.

They had a stream of major hits, including I Won't Back Down, American Girl, Runnin' Down A Dream and Free Fallin'.

Over the years, the rocker won 3 Grammys, racked up 18 nominations, and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

His band had just concluded their most recent tour, which started in April in honour of their 40th anniversary.
My black, jangly, electric 12 will ring in his honour.
Perhaps news was premature.

According to some outlets, Mr Petty is off the respirator but things are not looking hopeful.

Music writer and Saints drummer Iain Shedden dies aged 60

Iain Shedden, a drummer with the seminal Australian punk band The Saints, has died aged 60.
The Scots-born musician has been the Sydney-based music writer for the Australian newspaper since 1998.

Shedden worked for the Murdoch broadsheet for almost 25 years, first as a sub-editor before taking over as music writer.

Editor-in-chief Paul Whittaker paid tribute to "our much loved and respected colleague" who "was a close friend to many, many people on the paper".
"He was as brilliant a friend as he was a journalist and will be deeply missed. He had been treated for throat cancer some years ago and was undergoing additional treatment when he died suddenly on Monday.

Shedden started his first band, the Jolt, with two friends, Robbie Collins and Jim Doak while working as a junior reporter on his home town paper, the Wishaw Daily Record in 1976.

The Jolt caught the early swell of punk music and moved to London to sign with Polydor Records. In the snotty grotty world of punk they opened for various big names including The Jam, Generation X and The Motors as well as an unknown Brisbane band doing the rounds of the London punk scene, The Saints.

When The Jolt split in 1979 Shedden joined London band, the Small Hours, which featured The Saints' second bass player Kym Bradshaw. Then in 1981 The Saints' singer Chris Bailey, by then a close friend, asked him to join the new line-up and he spent nine years intermittently touring the world and recording with them.

Shedden moved to Sydney in 1992 and returned to journalism while continuing to perform regularly with various bands, including Reg Mombassa's Dog Trumpet.

Atheist: n; A person to be pitied in that he is unable to believe things for which there is no evidence, and who has thus deprived himself of a convenient means of feeling superior to others.
