Hi Nursey.
My guess is Monty Python is not the place to look for this one. Reminds me of a certain Nursie (spelled B-e-r-n-a-r-d).

G'day Nursey and welcome to the ward. Don't mind the rubber wall paper and jackets with sleeves that tie behind you we're all quite harmless........ Until the machinery in the walls starts sending out those vibrations then .. Aargh!

WOW!
What a welcome. Thanks to one and all for your "welcomes". I certainly like some of the humour that's out there (I'm a bit of a Monty Python fan myself). I won't bore you with my whole life's story (I'll save that for my autubiography), but what seems like a common start, is that I was "dragged" up a Roman Catholic and indoctrinated with Christianity as a child, sent to Catholic schools, and not given any chance what so ever to make my own mind up about religion in general. It wasn't till I was in my late teens that I started to ask the usual questions, and really wonder if I was living one of the biggest scams of all time.....I now believe that I was, so I became a "fence sitter" and later learned the term "agnostic", which I believed is what I was for the majority of my young adult life. So "agnostic" I stayed till more recently when my own children (which my wife and I have raised free of any proselytizing) were coming of the age where they were starting to excersise their "free thinking" minds, and asking the same questions I asked, and I felt the need to investigate some more. So it was through a colleague at work (another atheist), who handed me Professor Dawkins' book "The God Delusion", which really did kick off my desire to research (and the start of reading many books on the topic), and was one of the reasons which gave me the courage to dispell any agnostic thoughts I might have had, and shout out loud and proud that I was truelly an atheist......WOOOHOOO! This (I discovered), was the start of my atheistic life, and the issues which have cropped up in my life due to my atheism, some of which I would be happy to share in later threads, and some I'm sure quite a few of you have experienced. I'm delighted to have found the AFA, and look forward to reading some more. Kind regards. Nursey. |
