Yes, so the school is tacking the chaplain on to the needed part. You want the good bits you get the chaplain as well. You don't want the chaplain you don't get the qualified staff. Its a classic maneuver often used in things like referrenda. e.g. Bill to allow children to keep going to school and give MP's a 50% pay rise.

This is something that we absolutely must continue to fight against. Any kind of miseducation influence (ie the subtle pushing of nonsense like Creationism) that infects the school system must be stood up against. Proper education without the negative influence of those pushing their religious agenda, is very important.

Onya, Endurance Swimmer. There are, from their comments, some around here who can't see the threat posed by school chaplains, or the fact that our state school tradition has specifically precluded the teaching of religion. They have a toe hold now and once they are accepted as part of the educational landscape, the agreement not to preach will not be worth the paper it's written on. Religious organizations have a very obvious history of breach of trust because lying in furtherance of the religion's aims is considered to be a perfectly legitimate tactic and not sinful.

Yeah i totally agree with you and i find what they do extremely dishonest. Why they don't get dealt with by the authorities for this kind of dishonest and manipulative behaviour is gob smacking.

It seems that the High Court decision on funding chaplains has led to this referendum proposal. If passed the federal government can continue business as usual on funding the scheme. See http://www.abc.net.au/news/2013-05-0...eredum/4679152

@ptah - No.

See a few more details in this thread:
