Kinghorn Cancer Centre (Garvan Inst.)
Listening to ABC Newsradio this morning, I hear Mark Colvin interviewing a spokesperson from the new Kinghorn Cancer Centre opening in Sydney, as a bench to bed treatment centre, part of the Garvan Institute. Fascinating discussion about using cutting edge research in genomics & proteomics in a targeted clinical setting, then I nearly crash the car as the Professor in charge says patients will have access to a whole suite of CAM "treatments". Colour me cynical but surely this confounds the research aims of such an institute AND legitimises stuff the medical research community are working to remove from the public health spend? I do not know what to make of this.
