That's what I was told by my mother and grand mother and the nuns and the teachers and the catholic doctors.
In the end, I just didn't have faith. So I tossed out my bible and stopped going to church and stopped praying and stopped wetting the bed.
I was 17. I had a total reality crash and realised that the god I was praying to was either crap or pretending to be, and that both my parents were total nut jobs. I just had to survive school long enough to escape from it and my deranged home and I'd be all right. The shame attached to bed wetting is crushing and humiliating and debasing in the extreme.

For some people, maybe the alarms and wet bed buzzers help may help. If the bed wetting is in response to a domestic horror story, it's just one more burden to have heaped upon you as you try to drag yourself along through each day. Every attempt to do anything "overnight" carries such an appalling burden of embarrassment and involved hauling around plastic sheets and water and smell proof plastic bags for your linen. The pack like cruelty of other kids and your own siblings is horrible, and no, god will not help you. Bet wetting sucks, take it seriously.

Nice to meet you btw. I hope you have some fun here. It isn't difficult

Hi Wrenn,

My son is 14 now, but he wet the bed until not so long ago. Even with loving reassurance and trying every avenue for a solution, he managed to convince himself that it must be because he was doing something wrong and had a huge shame/humiliation complex about it, I can't imagine a kid having to deal with that AND extra helpings of catholic ̶l̶o̶v̶e̶ guilt on top of it.

Congratulations on your emancipation and welcome to the forum. I hope that you enjoy your time here and that life continues to improve for you.

Lilith.

That is so sad, that really is. My son had some drama's as an atheist mother I said, you are so sound asleep you don't wake up, don't worry about it it will pass, and it did. What happened to you is psychological abuse, they are so cruel!

My mother was very religious, it was obvious to me that god came first, always being an atheist I desperately wanted to believe because I thought she would love me, I pretended to be a good catholic girl until I realised that it didn't matter. As a result of this I have never made my children feel they have to compete for my love and attention. My love for them as a good atheist mother is totally unconditional.

I tried the alarm once but felt there was shame and pressure attached too, so just bought some pull ups, he has grown out of it at 10 which is great, I got advice that it is very normal for boys to go into their teens so I was just worried about the peers, fortunately no bullying at all. I just don't buy that these people have good intentions, I don't understand how anyone can treat their child that way frankly, breaks my heart

A belated "hello and welcome", Wrenn. I used to sleep in, but now have children instead of sleep.
