Hate it when that happens, but I should say that fsck'ing can save lives. But isn't a journaling FS used?

Praxis: fsck is a UNIX utility, "fsck" = "File System Check" - basically scans the whole disk (or partition) for consistency errors.

Not for database intensive systems no. You should not use a journalled file system for them.

There is more chance for data corruption, and especially across multiple vps containers like our situation, hence a good host will never use journalled file systems.

ah I see. I guess it does make sense. (I have heard about people using raw devices to store the databases too)

Although I can't work out then, how fsck will be of any use; seems more like a waste of time then, because it cannot save what is in the DB files.

Just lately I have been getting, on tappa, a message that says

Yeah, just got it a few minutes myself. Was on the home computer....not on the mobile. Will put it down to 'teh awesome'.
