Wasn't interested when this latest drama started. Even less interested a month down the track.
Can we get back to work now? |

I'm with egg!
Crowds of blog followers cheering on their respective combatants. I'm skipping their blogs in my feedreader til they all get oer themselves - most of it is a puerile pissing contest.

Now I'm wondering how to pat you on the back without putting you on the pedestal or knocking you off it.

And as chance would have it, Annie and I are watching U2 at the Rose Bowl tonight.

Following it? Kind of.
I think all involved need to remove their heads from their arses, have a cup of tea, and calm the fuck down.

All this is but a microcosm of something bigger happening within the online sceptic community at the moment, and it is sad because this is not the way it should be. One should at all times maintain respect towards others or at least apologise when a line has been crossed. But each side in this ongoing civil war seem to only be listening to themselves. I avoid this as much as possible and focus on attacking ideas and ideologies, rather than the individual or individuals referencing them. I do not do anger and have a self imposed life time ban on judging anyone anyway. It is part of my moral rehabilitation.
I visit the sites that hold me in contempt but do not treat them the same. Instead I look at the arguments being advanced. Sometimes it can be rather difficult to find some reason and logic one feels, but that is zero excuse for trying. I am immune to it anyway, but sometimes wish it would just disappear. Here I am referring to how things are said, rather than who is saying them. Nevertheless. The sceptic community of atheists and feminists can do better. By all means take ideas to pieces. No problem there at all. It is the natural default positiuon after all. But do so without all the ad hom too. That is just so unnecessary. One supposes that it is good that one's beliefs are brutally attacked over and beyond what is acceptable. Being taken out of your comfort zone and shown no mercy in such a fashion, is a test of one's resolve. If you can hold your head whilst all around you others are losing theirs . . . Still, it would be better if there was some universal understanding on how to conduct oneself in debate. This is not a judgement of course, just an observation. No ad hom here. That is not the way to proceed. I will carry on engaging as I have been doing so, irrespective of whether others do or not. It is the only way. The only way. Besides I find myself being drawn towards those who hold me in contempt. The feeling is not mutual. It is actually misplaced. Even so. You cannot make generalisations about entire fora. But some do. Not me. I focus on the idea, not the individual. We should all do that, all of the time, with zero exception. End of.
