Another case where you're not always free to choose is when you need emergency treatment and you picked a busy time.

Well I decided it was time to update the nice people at the "not for profit" Wesley hospital of my progress so I sent them a letter containing my original letter as an introduction and an update as follows

I understand that you refused me treatment because I would have been a financial liability but can you please assure me that you will spend some money on providing support and care for my family if this significant delay in treatment results in my death, my children are just toddlers and will need the help or would they also need to be profitable before you would help them “as part of the work of God in the world”
I would also like to notify that I have not been offered a single shift at Uniting care aging since I sent you this message ? coincidence?
Also I think it was a little callous to not even respond to a distressed person who asked for your help and was refused it because helping him would not have been profitable for your organization.
My blood tests suggest my condition will become life threatening if left untreated and again I ask you is refusing to even consider treating me consistent with your foundational values of….."Compassion - Through our understanding and empathy for others we bring holistic care, hope and inspiration" and
"Justice - We commit to focus on the needs of the people we serve and to work for a fair, just and sustainable society"
Will you please respond to me?

Just thought I would update my 'comrades' on my situation.

* No reply from the Wesley Hospital or Uniting Care.

* I have had my biopsies and subsequent surgery.....OUCH ! and made it to the GAC a week post op, limping and uncomfortable but had a ball !

* I recently reapplied for casual work at my old workplace.
At a local level they were delighted I was coming back as they were desperately short of registered nurses and told me they expected me to commence work within a few days.
With no further explanation my application was denied despite having a glowing referrence from the previous Director of Nursing.

* Many thanks for the messages of support and offers of assistance to get timely treatment.

Good to hear from you Mick, from what you describe it sounds like the churches don't like you rocking their boat. Well fuck them sideways with a double cross. As you noted, there is no shortage of demand for RNs, this applies to almost any hospital. Take another job and send the staff at your old hospital a nice postcard.
