I guess Christianity really can be just like a drug: it just gives you a short-term high.

Greene has long been an embarrassment to critical thinkers. He's one I'd happily let the xians keep, at least the damage he does would then be useful.

If Christianity can't catch and hold the attention of this dim bulb, it really has nothing.

Greene's belief status will always be unstable, because he believes in beliefs, and thinks atheism is a belief.

I once had a discussion with a mormon about whether people could, in fact, choose to believe or not. My position is that they can't - I could never just decide to be a Christian - I could tell people I was one, and do all the stuff, but I wouldn't actually be one, unless something convinced me to become one (in which case, the same would apply about being an atheist). He tried to tell me this was wrong by saying; "I can choose to be an atheist" and pretended to be one for a minute. This guy reminds me of that.

Yeah totally. Beliefs can change, and they can change through reasoning and meditation (as in, thinking, not necessarily sitting cross legged chanting "om"), but you can't just decide to change a belief (or lack of belief). Also, when it does change, you don't choose for it to change, even if you welcome the change.
